Journalism vs Activism

Liberal Cable's Tea Party Movement
I have said before that I believe it is nearly impossible to report objectively on political issues unless you are presenting both sides in the reporting. This seems to rarely happen and therefore, political reporting almost always leans right or left. In regards to this "Occupy *location*" Protest that is spreading, I believe that it is hard to argue that FoxNews, CurrentTV, and MSNBC do not have a bias in the reporting of these events.

Effect of Hyper-Competition in Cable
I do not believe that competition is ever harmful to any organization at any time since the intention is to improve over others to catch more consumers/viewers/dollars. However, I can see the point this argument is hinting at. The sensationalism of the news is what the media tends to gravitate towards in order to attract viewers. This is an unfortunate reality but I do not believe that it has anything to do with one media organization competing over viewers of another. If MSNBC or Fox News was the only existing media organization in the U.S., they would still sensationalize because they are competing with other forms of content and entertainment on and off television.

Steve Jobs Commencement Address
I have watched Steve Job's Commencement Address to Stanford graduates many times in the past and every time it stokes a fire in me to change the world. What is incredible about Jobs' speech is that it is motivating to people to change the world in however they feel compelled to do so. This does not necessarily mean that I have to go to South America to take on a new initiative to improve third world education unless that is what your passion and love calls you to do. For me, I am fortunately enough to already love my job. Why? My job is not a job. Its not a career. It is a cause. I am going to work every day to fight for a cause. Now if you've followed my blog at all, you'll remember that I am a safety project manager for a major airline. How is this is cause? That is what is so great about Jobs' deep observation of human fulfillment and pursuit of success. Its determined by what a person's vision is for what they can contribute to the world. That is their cause. So back to my cause that I am fighting for. I am fighting for the ability for a grandmother to travel thousands of miles to see her newborn grandson. I am fighting for the 21 year old Arizona State college graduate who has an interview in New York to start his career and the fight for his cause. I am fighting for the Phoenix family of the three year old girl who's brain tumor will be treated in the hospitals of Dallas, Texas. I am fighting for the creation of jobs, economic sustainability, the opening of trade around the world, and the irreplaceable element of face to face human interaction. Is that everyone's calling? Everyone's love? Everyone's passion? Nope but its mine and of course as Steve Jobs told me, "Stay hungry. Stay Foolish."
